My Contribution to the Wiki World for Tommy Wiseau
So I was wondering, ‘what the hell do I know that I can contribute to the wiki inter?’ Well, I don’t know much about nothing but I do pretty much know everything about the cult film THE ROOM. The Room is a truly a wonderful horrible piece of [f]art. It must be the worst movie ever made but it is so damn enjoyable. Now I’m not talking about just a bad movie… this movie fails at everything: editing, lighting, acting, writing, directing, Cinematography (they went through 5 D.P.’s because they kept walking off the set). The only thing that is half way descent is the score. Written, directed, produced, financed, and staring the great Tommy Wiseau, this film has gain cult status for being the next Rocky Horror. Every last saturday night of the month at the Sunset Laemmle The Room plays at midnight to a wild screaming crowd of a hundred plus. Plastic spoons are thrown, call back lines are becoming perfected and continually evolving, people act out moments, throw footballs… and laugh. It is such a experience nothing can be compared to it.So I thought I would put my two cents in on the wikipedia page about The Room and I added a link to a Variety article which I was interviewed and mentioned as being one of the pioneers in the beginning of the terrible cult phenomenom. I saw this film 5 years ago when it was nothing but a terrible drama “with the passion of Tennessee Williams” in a empty theater with two of my friends. Since there was no one else in the theater we didn’t know how to react to this terrible film so… we couldn’t stop laughing.By the near end of the movie I was already on the phone with my friends telling them that they have to come see this film because they will never get a chance to ever again. I was able with my other two compadres to get 25 people snuck into the theater and we watched the second screening immediately after the first. They were all dumbfounded and blown away and I convinced them to come back the next day and bring a shit load of our friends. So the next screening we had close to 60 people and the fourth screening we got over 100.By the time Tommy founded out he was making some inch of a profit from the weeks of negative dollars we investigated and found my review on imdb praising it for it’s comedic brilliance and I called it quote “a quirky new dark comedy” then low and behold after a few months of us crashing the private business test screening and laughing at it Tommy changed labeling the film as an “electrifying film with the passion of Tennessee Williams” to “experience this quirky new BLACK comedy.” He stole my bit just changed a word so he didn’t have to quote me I guess.Oh, well.I am happy to say that after 5 years total strangers are still shouting out my friends and my original call back line from the summer of 03′. I am honored and stunned that it is still going on.It’s funny. All I wanted to do when I first saw it in that empty theater was share it with my friends so they would know what I was talking about when I quote before the movie would disappear off the map but now it looks like the whole world is going to know what I am talking about.Insane. If it weren’t for Imdb and the internet blogs I don’t think this movie would have survived. God bless you Tommy you are more immortal than a vampire. Here is the wikipedia page on The Room God help us.
